Incontinence Product Size Guide
The right size is the difference between all-day confidence and an uncomfortable, leaky product. Every range we stock is sized by waist or hip circumference, not weight or age — use the steps below to measure once, then match your number to the chart for the range you’re buying.

How to measure
Find the widest point
Wrap a soft tape measure around the body at the widest point between the natural waist and the hips — this is usually just below the belly button. Measure standing up, in normal underwear, with the tape snug but not pulled tight.
Match, don’t guess
Find your measurement on the chart for the specific range you’re buying — sizing is not interchangeable between brands or styles. A MoliCare Medium and an Egosan Medium are cut differently.
Between two sizes?
For briefs, slips and pull-ups, size up rather than down — a product that’s slightly loose can be adjusted at the tabs, but one that’s too small will gap at the legs and leak. For fixation pants, choose the size that gives a snug, stretch-fit hold.
Re-measure every few months, and always after a noticeable change in weight — a size that fit well six months ago may no longer be the right one.

Products that aren’t sized by measurement
Form pads
MoliCare Form pads are inserts, not garments — one universal size worn inside Fixpants or close-fitting underwear. Choose by absorbency (drop count) rather than body measurement.
Light incontinence pads
Egosan’s women’s pads sit inside regular underwear like a sanitary pad. No waist sizing applies — match the absorbency level to how much protection you need.
Bed & chair mats
Sized by surface dimensions (for example 60 × 60 cm) to suit the bed, chair or wheelchair being protected, not by body measurement.
Which style suits your situation?
All-in-one briefs / slips
Side tabs open fully flat for a nappy-style change without undressing. Best for limited mobility, bedridden care, or whenever someone else is doing the changing.
Pull-ups
Worn and removed like ordinary underwear. Best for people who are mobile, dress themselves, and want a more discreet, underwear-like feel.
Fixpants + Form pad
A reusable, washable outer pant holds a disposable pad in place. A cost-effective, lower-waste system for moderate to heavy needs, changed by swapping just the pad.
Light pads
Slim, discreet, worn inside regular underwear. Best for light stress leakage where a full brief or pull-up isn’t needed.
Bed & chair protection
An added layer for overnight or stationary protection, useful alongside any of the above regardless of severity or mobility.
Signs you’ve got the wrong size
Too loose
- Leaking around the legs or waist, even with a suitable absorbency
- Gaps when you run a finger under the leg elastic
- Product sags or shifts during the day
Too tight
- Red marks or indentation lines on the skin after wear
- Tabs or side seams under visible strain, or splitting
- Restricted movement or discomfort when sitting
If leaking continues after checking the size, the cause is often the absorbency level or product style rather than the fit — moving up a drop tier, or from a pad to a brief, usually resolves it before sizing up again is necessary.
Frequently asked questions
Should I measure my waist or my hips?
Whichever is larger. Incontinence products are sized to the widest point the garment needs to stretch around, so use your hip measurement if it’s bigger than your waist, and vice versa.
Can I size down to save money?
We’d advise against it. A product that’s too small won’t seal properly at the legs or waist, so leaks become more likely and you’re more likely to go through more units, not fewer.
What’s the difference between a pull-up and a slip/brief?
Pull-ups go on like underwear and suit people who dress themselves. Slips and briefs open flat with side tabs, making them easier for a carer to fit during an assisted change without having to remove other clothing.
Do I need to change absorbency level for night versus day?
Often, yes. Overnight wear goes longer between changes, so many people move up a drop tier, or to a style with more front-and-back coverage, for sleep — then back down to a lighter, more comfortable option for daytime.
I’m still not sure which product or size to choose.
